Contact Microphones

In the session today we experimented with many different types of microphones to test out what sounds we could create and investigate what objects project sound that the human ear may not detected. The first microphone was the Hydrophone; a waterproof microphone. This was a very different shaped microphone with an interesting shape like a miniature flying pan in a sense. Me and my partner first went to the water bottle filling station where we lightly dripped the water on to the head of the microphone, whilst also picking up the sound of the bubbles protruding from the water tank above. This created a real strange combination of sounds and really gave the water its own sound world. The second microphone was a Clip Microphone. Me and my partner were not able to work with this microphone specifically but in the class it was presented that that its just a small mic that can 'clip' to many places and pick up the sounds of the world around it. This could be interpreted as being clipped onto a tree of such and collect all the sounds the appear in the woods like birds a wind through the leaves etc. Lastly was a Contact Microphone with a suction cup that is used for picking up electrical currents. Placing this on a plug socket or a mobile phone created this high pitch buzzing and screeching noise that shows the power and the electricity powering through the devise's. The sound was so interesting cause it was impossible to hear naturally and really gives you an insight into how there is so much sound happening around us all the time.
